Catholics across the Greensburg Catholic Diocese are joining faithful around the world in celebration of the election of the new Pope, Leo XIV.
The new pope is Robert Prevost, the first Pope born in the United States, but he has also spent many years in Latin America and the last few in Rome.
Bishop Larry Kulick of the Greensburg Diocese said he was excited about the news of the new pope being elected, but was surprised with the fact that he was from the U.S.
Kulick added that he felt that when the new Pope stepped out and showed nobility, dignity and calmness, even as the eyes of the faithful gathered in Vatican City and the world were watching him.
