New Pirates Manager Don Kelly starts his term off on a good note as the Pirates beat the Atlanta Braves last night to snap a seven-game losing streak. Joe Block reports.
The Pirates and the Braves resume the three-game set this afternoon with Andrew Heaney starting for the Bucs against AJ Smith-Shawver for the Braves. Airtime is 3:40 on WCCS.
Before the game the Pirates did make some moves on the roster. They put Enmanuel Valdez on the 10-day injured list due to shoulder inflammation. That is retroactive to May 8th. In a corresponding move, Ji Hwan Bae was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis. He was a starter on opening day, but since early April, was optioned to Indy, where he has a .258 batting average, a homer, six RBIs, eight doubles while striking out 22 times.
