After losing two of three in New York, the Pirates were off yesterday, and tonight they head a hundred miles south to start another three-game set. Joe Block has a preview.
Rehabbing first baseman Spencer Horwitz had two hits, including a homer run, in a 7-4 Indianapolis win over Louisville. Also on a rehab assignment, reliever Dauri Moreta threw a scoreless inning and surging first baseman Nick Solak had here hits, two of them doubles, for the Indians. But the news wasn’t all good…left-hander Hunter Barco, the sensation of the Pirates’ minor leagues so far this year, left the game with an undisclosed injury after facing only five batters. He winced in pain after throwing his 23rd pitch of the outing.
On the prospect watch, keep an eye on last year’s top Bucco draft pick. A day after collecting three hits, Konnor Griffin had four hits for low-A Bradenton in a loss. He’s hitting .315 and could be on his way to high-A Greensboro soon.
