The celebration of Jimmy Stewart’s birthday and the 30th anniversary of the opening of the museum that bears his name continues today.
Janie McKirgan, the President and Executive Director of the museum talked about why the museum has remained a success after 30 years in operation.
Today’s celebration includes a showing of Jimmy’s Academy Award-winning performance in “The Philadelphia Story” at 1:00, the distribution of Harvey cookies at the museum while supplies last. And from noon to 2, Jimmy’s daughter Kelly Harcourt Stewart will be in attendance to meet the veterans service dog named after Jimmy from the Warrior Canine Connection.
Continuing today at the Jimmy Stewart Airport is the display of the a P-15 Mustang “Thunderbird” plane owned by Stewart that won the Bendix trophy in airplane racing. The Indiana County Emergency Management Radio Club will also set up a temporary ham radio station at the airport to give visitors a chance to talk with others from around the world.
The main event will be tonight at the Indiana Theater as Brian Rohan presents his one-man show “Jimmy Stewart: On the Front of Life”. The show starts at 7:30 and tickets are available for $15 at the door. Following the play, there will be a Q&A Session with Rohan, Kelly Harcourt Stewart and her cousin Sandy Hart and moderated by WTAE-TV’s Mike Clark.
