State troopers are warning Pennsylvania residents of a text scam circulating in our area.
The text message claims to be from the “Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Motor Vehicles” and includes a statement regarding a “final notice” and penalties that are to be enforced May 31st. The text also includes a website link for recipients to make payment for an alleged outstanding “traffic ticket” to “avoid license suspension and further legal disputes.”
As of right now, troopers say no one in Indiana County has reported any financial loss to the scam. They are asking that you don’t click on any links, and to ignore any texts, emails, or phone calls when in doubt.
