The Steelers’ Donald Parham Jr. tore his Achilles tendon yesterday during the OTA session at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. The 6-foot-8 former Chargers and Broncos tight end was a free agent signee in February. ESPN says the Steelers and Dolphins have renewed trade talks involving tight end Jonnu Smith, who played for Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith in Atlanta.
While Parham is out for the year, inside linebacker Cole Holcomb is back after missing last season with a catastrophic knee injury. Holcomb has a been a full participant in OTAs. He says it’s been a long road back.
All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is looking to make a different type or return this season, a return to form after a season in which he adapted to a new role in the Steelers’ scheme. He says the players have to bring intensity to OTAs.
There could be help on the way in the Steelers’ wide receivers’ room, with the team scheduled to host free agent wideout Gabe Davis as early as today. He missed most of last season with a knee injury after catching twenty passes for Jacksonville.
And the Post-Gazette reports that TJ Watt and the Steelers will come to an agreement on a new contract before the regular season. Watt is believed to be seeking a contract equal to or surpassing that signed by Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett.
