It is quarterfinal day for the PIAA baseball and softball championship tournaments.
BASEBALL
Renda Digital TV will have Indiana High taking on WPIAL rival Central Valley in the 4A game, with the first pitch from Plum High School at 3:30.
23-1 Indiana has played four playoff games this season and three of them have gone extra innings, including the 1-0 thriller Monday over Bellefonte, a game in which the leadoff hitter for the Red Raiders singled and then they did not have a hit for the rest of the game. Central Valley is only 14-11 but they beat Cathedral Prep, one of the best teams in the state, 3-2 on Monday.
Indiana coach Dan Petroff says he doesn’t know much about the Warriors, but he knows they’ll be tough.
On WCCS this afternoon, the Class A quarterfinal features 20-5 Homer-Center tackling another WPIAL school Eden Christian, which comes into the game 17-5. Homer-Center is riding a four-game playoff winning streak, including Monday’s 10-0 drubbing of Carmichaels, a team which beat Eden Christian, 4-3 in the WPIAL semifinals. The Warriors topped DuBois Central Catholic, 4-0 on Monday.
Homer-Center coach Scott Bauer is looking forward to the matchup.
First pitch from Gateway High School is scheduled at one o’clock.
