The Indiana County NAACP has released some details on their upcoming Juneteenth celebration.
The theme for this year’s event is “Progress and Involvement: It’s All Up to Us”. The event will be held June 19th from 3-8 PM at Mack Park. It will include free swimming for all ages, children’s activities, food, performances by area youth, live entertainment from Anthony Frazier and other events. The guest speaker for this year is Dr. Roger Briscoe II, the executive director of Student Inclusion at IUP. There will also be the presentation of the Juneteenth Youth Achievement and Veteran Valor award. Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans.
The event is free, but registration is required. You can register through the celebration’s Eventbrite page.
