A tractor-trailer truck collided with a coal truck Monday afternoon on Route 22 in Burrell Township.
Black Lick and Blairsville fire departments were initially called at 2:13 PM to Route 22 near Tri-Star Motors. Black Lick Fire Chief Josh Hutcheson said that the tractor-trailer was headed East when it crossed into the westbound lanes near the Days Inn and crashed head on into the coal truck, which was carrying a load at the time.
The drivers were both able to get out on their own, with the coal truck driver taken by a private vehicle to IRMC for evaluation. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken by Citziens Ambulance to Conemaugh Memorial for observation. Crews were on the scene for over five hours to clean up not just the coal, but fluids that spilled from the trucks. Indiana County HAZMAT team was called to assist with the cleanup.
