Wednesday night, the Penns Manor School Board approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the union representing support professionals in the district.
Superintendent Daren Johnston said that it’s been 16 to 18 months of negotiations for the contract. He said it was a relief for everyone.
No details could be released on the contract as the union has to vote on it, but the contract is retroactive to last year and will expire July 1st of 2027.
Some during public comment were not happy with how long negotiations took and that a factfinder was brought in to help bring the cba to completion, saying they felt the staff was underappreciated. Negotiations chairperson Jill Eckenrode said the district had to deal with their budget, and negotiated in good faith.
The board also approved a resolution to repeal the per capita tax for the district starting the next fiscal year, which starts July 1st.
