The Indiana High baseball team will head to State College today for the PIAA Quad-A baseball championships.
Indiana is entering today’s game with a 25-1 record, and most of the games they have been playing have been extra inning affairs. That includes the state semi-final earlier this week against East Pensboro that went 17 innings over two days, which broke the state tournament record for innings played in one game. In six playoff games, Indiana has played 63 innings, including 21 extras, and have averaged 10.5 innings a game. By comparison, a standard high school playoff game lasts seven innings.
Indiana High Coach Dan Petroff said after the win in the semifinals that he has never been involved in a game that has gone that long, and he was impressed with the stamina the kids have.
The team is leaving Indiana High School around 8:30 this morning, and the team is asking the town to wear red and line Philadelphia Streets as the bus heads out. We’ll have video coverage of their departure on our Facebook page.
Today’s game will be played at 1:30 and we’ll have coverage on WDAD AM 1450, 100.3 FM and WDADRadio.com starting at 1:00.
