Pennsylvania’s Attorney General Dave Sunday announced along with 54 other Attorneys General a $7.4 billion dollar settlement with Purdue Pharma and its owners concerning the opioid crisis.
The settlement against the company and the Sackler family resolves any pending litigation, with both admitting their role in contributing to the drug epidemic with high production rates, and will also ends the Sackler’s ownership of the business and their ability to sell opioid drugs in the United States. Pennsylvania will receive $200 million from the settlement over a period of 15 years depending on how many municipalities sign off on the settlement terms. Most of the money will be distributed in the first three years of the settlement.
In principle, the settlement is the nation’s largest settlement to date with individuals responsible for the opioid crisis.
