The National Weather Service’s heat-related watches for Indiana County and portions of the surrounding area remain in effect.
A heat advisory will continue through 8:00 Wednesday night for Indiana, Armstrong and Jefferson Counties along with the Southeast border of Westmoreland County. The prolonged hot temperatures and high humidity could cause heat-related illnesses. People are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioned environments, stay out of the sun and check on neighbors and relatives. If you do have to go out, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit any strenuous activity to the morning or evening hours.
The other advisory in effect is a Code Orange Air Quality alert for today for Armstrong, Westmoreland and Indiana Counties until 4:30 this afternoon. Air pollution concentrations in the region may be unhealthy for sensitive groups of people like the elderly, the very young and those with heart or lung diseases. Those people are advised to limit outdoor activity as much as possible.
