Indiana County’s District Courts will be busy with preliminary hearings today, including one for a man who lead police on a chase near Ernest.
Court documents show 31-year-old Nicholas Empfield will go before District Judge Christopher Welch this morning. He faces charges of aggravated assault by vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest and other crimes related to the chase on April 9th of this year. Empfield was riding his motorcycle with 40-year-old Amanda Baker, as the two were trying to shake police officers chasing them on Blue Spruce Road north of 7th Street. During the pursuit, Empfield missed a right turn and lost control of the bike. Both had minor injuries suffered in the crash.
Also facing a hearing today before Judge Welch is Christopher Mathis. The 45-year-old Waynesburg man is charged with aggravated assault with attempt to cause bodily injury in an incident on September 15th of last year.
