Two of the popular places to cool off during the heatwave has been either of the major pools in Indiana County: Mack Park Pool in Indiana and the Homer City Pool.
Crowds have increased during the heat wave that started on Sunday, but Homer-Center Parks and Rec President Kyle Cobaugh said that the pool has been close to capacity on some days this week.
He added that the big problem has not been the number of people, nor the lifeguards available, but making sure that the refreshment stand is well stocked.
YMCA CEO Eric Neal said that Mack Park Pool has also seen an increase in activity, but have not reached capacity levels yet due to the size of the pool, and a similar problem with ice cream and other snacks selling out. He added that there were definitely more people than last year at this time and even more than earlier this month.
He also said that while they have a good staff of lifeguards, they could always use a few more, along with a more concession stand workers.
