The Pro Football Hall of Fame yesterday honored fifteen individuals with the 2025 Awards of Excellence, including two long-time members of the Steelers, former running back and assistant coach Dick Hoak and head trainer John Norwig.
The awards were established in 2022 to honor contributors in five categories: assistant coaches, athletic trainers, film/video directors, equipment managers and public relations personnel.
Hoak was drafted by the Steelers out of Penn State in 1961 and played ten seasons for them, then joined Chuck Noll’s staff as running back coach for the next 35 seasons. He was unable to attend yesterday and his award was accepted by his grandson.
Norwig joined the Steelers in 1991 and retired in 2023 after 32 seasons.
Among those in attendance at the ceremony in Canton was Hall of Fame Steelers cornerback Mel Blount.
