Following their brief road trip to Milwaukee, where they lost two out of three games, the Pirates are back home tonight to open a six-game homestand. The Bucs take on the Mets for the first of three games, with the Cardinals to follow for three more at PNC Park. Airtime tonight on WCCS is 6:15 with first pitch at 6:40.
Mitch Keller is 1-10 with a 4.09 ERA and has not won a game since March despite being in a tie for fourth place in quality starts in the National League. He’ll take the mound tonight against the Mets’ lefty David Peterson, who is 5-3 with a 2.98 ERA.
The Pirates yesterday signed a Major League contract with left-handed reliever Genesis Cabrera, who elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Cubs last Saturday. He’s made fifteen appearances between the Mets and Cubs this season, with a 6.35 ERA. He’s played parts of eight seasons, including stints with the Cardinals and Blue Jays, with a 17-14 record and career 4.03 ERA.
To make room on the Major League roster, the Pirates sent reliever Michael Darrell-Hicks to Indianapolis, and to open up a spot on the 40-man roster, pitcher Hunter Stratton was designated for assignment.
