A bill considering the cancellation of streaming television services is on the agenda today for the state house.
House Bill 1229, called the “Click to Cancel and Consumer Protections for Recurring Subscriptions” bill makes sure that any online contract makes consumers aware of any automatic renewal. The bill would also make the cancellation process easier to navigate. Currently, some streaming companies require customers to jump through hoops or talk with a customer service representative over the phone or online before they can end the service. It would also require companies to be transparent about renewal terms and allow people to cancel their subscriptions exclusively online if they subscribed over the internet.
Similar legislation passed the state house unanimously in the previous voting session. If it passes, it will head to the senate for consideration.
