Today is the deadline for Pennsylvania’s budget, and local legislators are saying that they will continue to work on the 2025-26 spending plan after the deadline.
State Representative Jim Struzzi, the republican leader of the House Appropriations Committee did not give a timeline for completion, but he expects the process to be a thorough one.
Senator Joe Pittman, who serves on the Senate Appropriations Committee, said that he feels that it will be at least a few weeks before the budget will be passed. He added that while there are some major disagreements between the Governor and the Legislature, there are some base things they agree on like mass transit, skill games and making progress on the structural deficit, even if they won’t have that fixed this year.
Pittman has said while the spending plan will not make the deadline, the state government will continue to operate and state employees will be paid.
