A long time Indiana County restaurateur has died.
Salvatore Conigliaro, known to many as “Papa Sal,” died yesterday at his home. An immigrant from Carini, Sicily in Italy, he opened “Papa Sal’s” restaurant in 1998. The restaurant on Route 22 just outside of Blairsville closed in September of 2024 as he continued to battle cancer, but in a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, they were happy to learn that local Italian restaurant Ravalia’s was taking over the property.
Conigliaro was in the restaurant business for 45 years, and is being remembered as a man totally devoted to his restaurant, and for building not just a restaurant, but helping to build lasting friendships and a legacy.
The Ferguson Funeral Home and Monument Company will handle arrangements. We’ll have the visitation details in the obituary section of our website and as part of our noon news later today.
