A post-conviction relief act hearing is on the schedule today for a man convicted of assaulting a police officer.
Court documents show 34-year-old Charles Brantley Ross of Homer City was found guilty on charges of resisting arrest, aggravated assault with an attempt to cause serious bodily injury, public drunkenness and disorderly conduct-fighting for the incident on August 7th of 2021. State police were called out to a location on Old William Penn Highway in Burrell Township for a man behaving erratically. Ross admitted to the responding troopers that he was under the influence of methamphetamine and refused to comply with police. He then ran into traffic in an effort to be hit by an oncoming vehicle. Troopers also said Ross resisted being placed in the cruiser and tried to assault them, even kicking a state trooper in the head.
He was ordered to serve up to five years in prison and fines on December 19th of 2022. He had submitted his PCRA hearing request in February, but the hearing was delayed twice. It is scheduled to be held today before President Judge Thomas Bianco.
