Robert “Wayne” Rairigh, 73, of Indiana died unexpectedly at his home, May 28, 2025.
Born July 29, 1951, he was the only child of the late H. Eugene and Dorothy Rita (Prushnok) Rairigh. He was raised in Maryland where his parents were public school teachers. He returned to Hillsdale with his parents in the mid 1970’s to help his mother’s side of the family, the Prushnok’s, operate the Arcadia Coal Company.
Northern Indiana County was truly home for Wayne and his parents, grandparents and his extended family.
Wayne attended The John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland. He graduated from Loyola College in Baltimore with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Wayne was an entrepreneur, having owned and operated Ivy Manor Inn in Ligonier for a time in the late 1980s. It was there that Wayne met Cynthia Wolff, by all accounts, the love of his life. They would remain life partners until Cynthia’s untimely death September 14, 2021.
He admired the scenic views and local beauty that exists in our area. Wayne would often travel to the Montgomery Cemetery where his parents, Cynthia and many Rairigh relatives are buried, to take in the serene calm at sunset.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and by Cynthia. He was also preceded in death by cousins, Kathy Burba and Gerald Stossel. He is survived by 12 cousins from both sides of his family: Christina Kelly, John “Butch” Prushnok, Dan Prushnok, Dave Prushnok, Donald Stossel and Richard Stossel, Drena Anderson, Paul Rairigh, Daniel Gardella, Chris Gardella, David Rairigh, and Judith Rairigh.
A memorial service will be held at Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Indiana, 965 Philadelphia St. in Indiana on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11AM. Burial will follow in Montgomery Cemetery in Grant Township.
