The company behind the incoming natural gas-fired power plant in Homer City has announced an opportunity for the public to learn more about the facility.
Homer City Redevelopment, LLC has scheduled an open house for July 16th from 6-8 PM. While the Homer-Center School District was scheduled to host the open house, it was moved to the KCAC due to the ongoing HVAC renovation at the high school auditorium.
Homer City Redevelopment CEO Corey Hessen said (in an interview on Indiana in the Morning) that this open house is important in keeping the public informed on what’s happening at the facility.
Hessen said the entire redevelopment of the site is three large projects in one.
The company announced in April that a natural gas power plant was going in at the old Homer City Generating Station. The 4.5-gigawatt plant is expected to double the power output for the former coal-fired facility, with the electricity generated to be used to power an AI data center on the property and provide power to 13 states and Washington, DC through PJM and a New York Independent System Operator. The iconic stacks of the former facility were demolished in March. The facility is expected to start generating electricity in late 2027.
