The Penguins opened their prospect development camp yesterday at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry. The 52 players are working under the guidance of director of player development Tom Kostopoulos.
The young players, including all thirteen draft choices this year, are split into three groups: Team Stevens, Team Patrick, and Team Johnston. The camp runs through Monday. Today, the prospects will be on the ice from 9 AM, starting with the goalies, and then at 10, 11, noon, and 1 PM, utilizing both rinks. The sessions are free and open to the public.
The current Penguins roster is bulging with recent acquisitions and while the team did not make any deals yesterday, president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas was reported to be very actively engaged in trade talks, with the most-often mentioned names being Erik Karlsson, Rickard Rakell, and Bryan Rust.
