Indiana County Development Corporation and Office of Planning and Development Executive Director Byron Stauffer, Jr. told the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce board of directors last week that his agencies are working with the county commissioners and other county departments, as well as affiliates of the Center for Economic Operations, municipalities, and community stakeholders to help businesses “be prepared for what is coming so that everyone can reap the benefits of” the Homer City Redevelopment project, according to a release by the Chamber.
One highlight of Stauffer’s report last week was the work already underway to find suitable housing for the anticipated thousands of construction workers who will be building the power plant and data centers.
The Homer City Energy Campus is being built by Kiewit Power Constructors Company, which estimates around 10,000 direct on-site construction-related jobs and about 1,000 direct and indirect permanent positions in technology, operations, and energy infrastructure.
Stauffer said a rural development conference is being planned this fall with the Realtors Association of Westmoreland, Indiana, and Mon Valley. He told the board his team would help local businesses “be ready and learn how they can benefit” from the anticipated economic opportunities.
