Indiana University of Pennsylvania is taking another step forward in establishing its proposed college of osteopathic medicine.
Yesterday, IUP signed a clinical training affiliation agreement with Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers and Wayne Memorial Hospital in northeastern Pennsylvania. The partnership will allow third- and fourth-year medical students to receive hands-on training at both facilities. These are IUP’s first clinical sites in eastern Pennsylvania and bring the university’s total number of signed training agreements to 16, which is well above what’s required for accreditation. Securing these partnerships is a key milestone as IUP continues the process of seeking approval from the American Osteopathic Association. If accredited, IUP would become the only public university in Pennsylvania with a college of osteopathic medicine. The program is focused on preparing physicians to serve in rural and underserved communities.
The university has already raised more than $34 million in funding for the project from public, private, and legislative sources.
