The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency says that 9-1-1 services are now back in full operation after an outage Friday afternoon.
Yesterday, wireless emergency alerts popped up on cell phones across the state initially reporting a “statewide intermittent 911 outage” and informing people to call alternate numbers. According to a post on the X account for PEMA made just after midnight this morning, that service was restored and an investigation is underway into the cause of the outage. They also ask that people do not tie up their local 911 lines making their own tests, and to leave the lines clear for genuine emergencies.
During a press conference last night, officials confirmed that the issues started with calls going to the Delaware County 911 center. The NextGen 911 Service provider jumped in and started to investigate. The exact cause remains unknown.
