Homer City Redevelopment and one of the nation’s largest natural gas producers have signed a deal to provide the fuel needed for the facility in Center Township.
HCR announced on Tuesday an agreement in principle for EQT Corporation to serve as the company’s exclusive partner to source and supply the natural gas needed to power the 4.4-gigawatt natural gas-fired power plant to serve the Homer City Energy Campus. Under the agreement, HCR will have access to backup or alternate supplies of fuel for the site, with the ability to access gas from the Texas Eastern Transmission and Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage pipelines, giving the company access to 665,000 MMBtu’s a day. This is the largest single-site natural gas purchases in North American History.
It was also announced yesterday that GE Vernova has finalized its order with HCR to provide seven high-efficiency turbines to the plant. First deliveries are expected to take place next year. Kiewit Power Constructors Company will lead construction efforts.
