For the second straight year, Indiana is going to the Junior Little League 14U World Series in Kirkland, Washington. Indiana beat Milford, Delaware twice yesterday, 12-2 and 10-1.
An eight-run third inning broke open the first game. After scoring a run in the second, the girls got RBI hits from Sophia Boyer, Samantha Martin, Reese Mahaffey, and Claire Brewer, and a sacrifice fly by Evie Grantz. Then Martin hit a two-run double in the fourth inning and after Milford scored in the fifth, Brewer ended the game with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the ten-run rule. Ella Worthington gave up three hits and a walk in earning the win in the circle. Brewer and Martin both drove in three runs, with Brewer collecting three hits and Martin two doubles.
In the second game, with the regional title on the line, Indiana rushed to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Leah Nelson singles, Worthington double her home and then scored from second on a groundout, the Sophia Boyer and Martin both doubled, Sophia Thomas singled, Mahaffey walked, and Paisely Wolff and Brewer singled. Leading 5-1, Indiana added two more in the second on a Nelson triple and singles by Worthington and Boyer. In the fifth, Boyer cracked a home run and Indiana added a run in the sixth when Wolff walked, went to second on a walk, and then stole third and home. They closed the scoring with two in the seventh on Milford errors. Nelson, Worthington, and Boyer each had three hits, Thomas had two, and Martin and Mahaffey struck out eleven from the circle.
Indiana will open World Series action against Canada on Sunday afternoon at four o’clock in Kirkland.
