The Pat McAfee circus came to Latrobe yesterday as the Plum native’s popular ESPN show aired live from St. Vincent College, featuring appearances by Aaron Rodgers, Cam Heyward, TJ Watt, Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan, and others.
Tomlin enjoyed the distraction.
When they got down to business, the Steelers padded up for the first time in camp and the intense “backs on ‘backers” drill took place.
For Tomlin, one of the highlights was tackle Troy Fataunu facing off with TJ Watt, and the second-year pro more than held his own against the All-Pro.
Aaron Rodgers says he’s enjoying the atmosphere at St. Vincent, and the closeness of his teammates.
While much of the attention in camp has been on rookie running back Kaleb Johnson, Rodgers says opposing teams can’t overlook incumbent Jaylen Warren.
Rodgers is impressed with his center, second-year pro Zach Frazier, who has been helping him learn the Steelers’ offense.
The only injury Tomlin noted was to defensive lineman Esezi Otomewo, who was carted off the field with a knee injury and is being evaluated.
In anticipation of thunderstorms today, the Steelers have moved practice to 10 AM rather than 1:55. Tomorrow is the Friday Night Lights practice at memorial Stadium in Latrobe.
