Criminal call hearings are on the schedule today for Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas.
Among those hearings is one for a man charged with possession of child pornography. Ross Allen Smith, a 51-year-old from Starford was charged in April. Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi said that county detectives received an investigative referral regarding internet use for child sexual abuse materials and found items were being downloaded in Starford. State troopers and county detectives served a search warrant and found the images on Smith’s smart phone.
Another person on the docket for today’s criminal call session is 22-year-old Nantai Gaston of Carolltown in Cambria County, who faces charges of child endangerment, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct in connection with an incident on March 4th of this year.
Criminal Call is designed to update the court and the parties involved on the progress of a case. Proceedings are usually postponed to a later date, but on occasion, guilty pleas have been entered at the Criminal Call phase.
