A lot of events are planned today to welcome students back to IUP Campus.
This weekend is move-in weekend for returning students, and IUP is continuing its 150th anniversary celebration with two festivals. One is the traditional students-only Crimson Carnival Block Party inside the KCAC from 1-4. As part of the anniversary celebration, a carnival event has also been set up in the KCAC Parking Lot from 5-9 PM, and that event is free and open to the public. Food and beverages will be available to purchase. During the carnival, IUP President Dr. Michael Driscoll will offer some remarks, and the winner of the T-shirt design contest will be announced.
There will also be a “friends and family” performance of the IUP Marching Band. “The Legend” takes the field at 5:45, and will mark the first public performance by the band under the baton of new director William Sugg.
The evening will end with fireworks at 9:00.
In connection with today’s events on campus, a portion of the Hoodlebug Trail from 13th Street to Maple Street will be closed until 7:00 tomorrow morning.
