The topic of who will take the seat vacated by the resignation of Sue Rieg was discussed at Monday Night’s Indiana School Board meeting.
The board officially accepted Rieg’s resignation last night, and Sally McCombie and Quintina Thomas were both nominated to take over as the board’s vice president. Joshua Muscatello wanted to have a paper ballot instead of the standard voice vote, and the motions were tabled until next meeting so the board could hear from its solicitor if a paper vote would be allowed.
As for who will fill Rieg’s seat, board president Walter Schroth suggested that instead of going through the traditional vetting process that the board go with Eric Brocious. He is already on the ballot for both the two-year and four-year school board seats up for grabs in the upcoming election, and Schroth added that this will give him some valuable experience.
A final decision on the board vice president and the new member will be made at the next meeting on September 8th.
The board also approved hiring the firm of Dillon, McCandless, King, Coulther and Graham, LLP to represent the district in their upcoming cyber charter school reform legal action at a cost of $200 an hour.
