IUP has announced plans for its annual celebration of Constitution Day.
Festivities will be held on September 15th starting at Noon in front of Stapleton Library facing the Oak Grove with the reading of the constitution. IUP Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Laura Luetkehans will start the reading. The opportunity to be a reader is open to the entire community, and the first 100 participants will receive a special “We The People at IUP” t-shirt, a pocket-sized U.S. Constitution and a cookie. If the event of inclement weather, the reading will be held in Jane Leonard Hall. This year will mark the 17th year that IUP has hosted a public reading of the constitution.
Another tradition will be a presentation by a member of the faculty portraying one of the signers of the constitution. That will be held in the Elkin Hall great room at 6:00 PM as Dr. Joe Mannard from the IUP Department of History, Philosophy, Political Science and Religious Studies will portray constitution author James Madison. That event is also open to the public and free to attend.
