At Thursday night’s meeting, Homer-Center board member Misty Hunt announced she is stepping back from the board for the next two months.
At the start of the meeting, she read a prepared statement concerning a statement made on social media that some claimed was connected to the death of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. She reiterated that the post of “one down, hundreds to go” was made in reference to gardening and milk weed pods, and was never meant to celebrate Kirk’s assassination. Hunt, who is on the ballot for November’s school board election, said the step back will give things time to settle.
She expressed regret for the misunderstanding.
Comments from the public both supported her and were against her, with one calling for her removal from the board. Solicitor Ron Repak said for that to happen, it would have to be for something more serious.
District Superintendent Ralph Cecere was grateful that the public’s comments were made in a civil manner. He said he and the board appreciated her decision.
Also during the meeting, the board approved a trip for the softball team to Pigeon Forge to attend spring training from April 8th to the 12th, and approved Cecere’s satisfactory evaluation for the 2024-25 school year.
