Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate remained steady in the month of August.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced that the unemployment rate last month was 4.0%, which is four-tenths of a percentage point higher than last year at this time. By comparison, the national unemployment rate was 4.3%, up a tenth of a point from July.
The state civilian labor force, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, went down 7000 over the last month to 6,530,000 in August. The total number of non-farm jobs went up 12,200 over the month to 6,249,100, making the 16th consecutive month at a record high. Jobs increased in seven of the 11 industry super sectors, with the biggest movement seen in education and health services, which went up 3700 over the month.
