River Valley’s Jake Pynos and West Shamokin’s Alex Talmadge have battled each other on the golf course many times, and yesterday at Sinking Valley in Altoona, Pynos took the top spot in the District 6 AA championship, firing a two under par 70 to beat two-time defending champ Talmadge by two strokes.
Three golfers from the Heritage Conference will compete in the state AA tournament at Penn State on October 21st and 22nd. After Pynos and Talmadge, Homer-Center’s Brayden Rado finished in a three-way tie for sixth at five over 77. In a one-hole playoff, Bishop Guilfoyle’s Carter Bolan took sixth place and the seventh and final state tournament berth went to Rado over Guilfoyle’s Troy Nachtman.
River Valley’s Jeremy Reed finished ninth, one stroke off the top seven pace. Teammate Brady Doak was 24th.
