White House says federal layoffs are “imminent” amid government shutdown

Wednesday marks day one of the first U.S. government shutdown in nearly seven years. Approximately 750,000 federal workers will not receive a paycheck until lawmakers on Capitol Hill can agree on a funding plan for the government, and the White House says some of those workers will be laid off.
