IUP’s Homecoming weekend kicks off today with the annual parade in Downtown Indiana.
With the university celebrating its sesquicentennial, the theme for the parade this year will be IUP Icons. Members of the IUP Greek Life community and other clubs have created floats representing items common to campus life from the Oak Grove to the Hub, from Norm to The Penn student newspaper. The event will also feature music from “The Legend” IUP Marching band and bands from Indiana, Homer-Center, Marion Center, Penns Manor, Purchase Line, River Valley, and United schools.
The parade will start at 10 AM at 11th and Philadelphia Street and take the traditional route East before turning onto sixth street, then going onto Church Street to Oakland Avenue and then to 11th street where it will disband. After the parade, student volunteers and the Indiana High School Varsity Hockey team will clean the parade route.
People are reminded that there will be road closures along the parade route, and traffic on side roads like Water and Church streets will be heavier than normal. Indiana Borough Police remind people to have some extra patience and allow for some extra travel time. Police are also setting up a handicapped parking area between 10th Street and Foundry Avenue, and officers will direct people parking there to a viewing spot.
We will have the parade starting at 9:55 on Renda Digital TV.
