The State House of Representatives has advanced a new budget bill that Senator Joe Pittman called a step backwards in getting a budget passed.
The new spending plan from State House Democrats is now at $50.25 billion, which is a slight decrease from their last plan and further away from Governor Josh Shapiro’s $51.6 billion that was originally requested.
The PA Senate Republican Caucus has announced their disapproval of the plan. Senate Majority Leader Joe Pittman said the new spending plan was not progress.
Pittman referenced the proposal made by Senate Republicans to pass last year’s budget without any spending increases to get money out to schools, counties and other agencies that are now dealing with several problems due to the impasse.
It has now been 100 days since the PA Budget Deadline.
