The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources says Indiana County is now in its best time for fall leaf colors.
Indiana is one of 11 counties, including Clearfield and Cambria in the peak color category, along with Elk County in the west-central region and seven other counties in the north and north-east region. As predicted, the peak color for leaves is coming early due to the dry summer and fall the state has seen. Ten counties, including Somerset to the South of Indiana and nine others along the PA-New York border are in the “still nice, but declining” category. Most of the state is in the approaching best color while 14 others are in the “just starting” phase.
Area foresters say that aspen and sassafras trees have been changing the most while many oaks remain green. They say that there will be a few more weeks to enjoy the colors.
