The incident happened approximately 2:00 PM as an IndiGo bus going West on Philadelphia hit two pedestrians in the roadway. One person, identified only as an adult female, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other, an adult male, was taken to IRMC where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the bus was also taken to IRMC for evaluation.
As of 6:45 PM, the 700 block of Philadelphia Street remains closed as the investigation continues, but the bus was seen being towed from the area. Indiana Borough police are being assisted by the Indiana County Sheriff’s Department, State Police, the District Attorney’s office, Indiana Fire Association, the borough’s Public Works department, Citizen’s Ambulance, Alice Paul House and the County Coroner’s office assisted.
The victims’ identities have not been released pending notification of next-of-kin.
This marks the second fatal crash along Philadelphia Street reported this year. The other accident was on March 11th at 9th and Philadelphia Street where two people were killed. Schawl said that the investigation into that crash is nearing completion, and the investigation into Monday’s crash will be a thorough one with multiple partner agencies involved. He added that “we will continue to isten, we will continue to research safety
enhancements, we will continue to deliver recommendations for engineering, we will continue to educate on traffic laws and safety measures, and we will continue to enforce traffic violations.”
