The Indiana County Transit Authority has released a statement concerning the deaths of two people after they were hit by a bus in Downtown Indiana on Monday.
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. confirmed 68-year-old Ronald Lynn Mabon of South Mahoning Township and 39-year-old Christina Marie Perez of Ernest were killed when the bus struck them at the intersection of 7th and Philadelphia Streets at 1:59 PM yesterday. The two were crossing Philadelphia Street from the south side when they were hit by the bus as it was making a left turn from South 7th to Philadelphia Street. Perez was pronounced dead at the scene, while Mabon succumbed to his injuries after he was taken to Indiana Regional Medical Center.
IndiGo Executive Director Brenda Hill said in a statement that they were “deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving one of our buses.” The incident is still under an active investigation and IndiGo is fully cooperating with investigators to determine exactly what happened, so they are unable to provide further comment.
This marks the second incident where two people were killed crossing Philadelphia Street in the last seven months. The first was in March of this year when a box truck struck two people at the intersection of 9th and Philadelphia Streets.
