Heritage Conference golfers struggled in the first round of the PIAA Class AA golf championships yesterday. River Valley’s Jake Pynos and West Shamokin’s Alex Talmadge both shot six over par 78. Conemaugh Township’s Ben Steinbeck is at seven over 79 and Homer-Center’s Brayden Rado shot 89.
Pynos’s round included back-to-back birdies on 6 and 7 but he opened with double bogeys on 1 and 3. Talmadge bogeyed five of the first seven holes, mixing in a birdie on number 6.
Cole Powell of Scranton Prep has a one-shot lead heading into the final round today after shooting four under 68.
Rado starts his day on number ten today at 10 AM. Talmadge and Pynos start on the front nine, Talmadge at 10:10 and Pynos at 10:20.
