Mount Union High School is currently sixth in the District 6 AA playoff rankings with only one game left to go, but the Trojans won’t get to play that game and they are out of the playoff race. The school has canceled the rest of the season after injuries reduced the roster to as few as thirteen players in last week’s 51-28 loss to Claysburg-Kimmel.
In a public statement, the school said, “This difficult decision was made with the health and safety of our student-athletes as our top priority. We are incredibly proud of the effort, resilience, and commitment shown by our players and coaching staff this year. Thank you to our families, fans, and community for your unwavering support. We look forward to returning stronger next season.”
Mount Union will forfeit this week’s game against Meyersdale and end its season 7-3. The departure from the playoff picture elevates Bald Eagle Area to number eight in the rankings and moves United Valley up a spot, to seventh.
