The Pennsylvania Senate has once again put forward a proposal in an effort to bring the state budget impasse to an end after four months.
Senate Bill 160 will bring the budget to $47.9 Billion in spending, which represents an increase of $300 million from the plan passed by the Senate in August, and meets one of the goals of the Senate Republican leaders of imposing no tax hikes while taking the extra step of fully funding the state’s debt service and its share of school employees’ retirement. Senate Republican Leader. The proposed spending plan also includes 5% cuts in spending for the General Assembly.
On the floor of the Senate, Majority Leader Joe Pittman said that this budget should give the state what it needs.
Pittman added that the Senate Republican Caucus has been clear and consistent on its priorities since the Governor proposed his spending plan back in February.
The budget now heads to the State House for consideration.
