Monday night, Indiana School Board was given an update on the district’s financial situation, and for now, the district is in good financial shape.
The board was informed that the district will be able to continue to navigate the state budget impasse until January, but every day that they do not receive state funding will cost the district.
There was also concern for the Armstrong-Indiana Intermediate Unit as they depend on both state and federal funding, both of which are not coming in. This could potentially mean an increase in costs for the district.
The board also discussed a potential solar plan with PA Solar. The board voted to move forward with an idea of using the rooftops at East Pike, Eisenhower and the Junior High property and the greenspace behind the maintenance garage. Board president Walter Schroth said the district would not pay for the equipment.
He said the district could save $1 to $2 million over the 30-year duration of the agreement.
