A preliminary hearing is scheduled today for a suspect in a stabbing that happened on October 20th in White Township.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, 23-year-old Joel Anthonio Hyderkhan is facing charges of aggravated assault-attempts to cause serious bodily injury with extreme indifference, attempted aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, harassment and possession of a weapon for the incident at 9:45 PM at 2400 Byron Court. State police were sent by Indiana County 911 after hearing word that 30-year-old Alexander Gutierrez was stabbed in his apartment. Police interviewed the victim at IRMC and he gave a description of his attacker, who reportedly lived in the apartment directly above him. Other eyewitnesses gave the same description of the attacker. In later interviews, Gutierrez said that he had ordered him out of the apartment, and the two were involved in an argument outside. When the victim went around the back of the apartment complex, Hyderkhan was waiting for him and during the physical altercation, Gutierrez was stabbed.
Police interviewed Hyderkhan last Friday, and he said Gutierrez was yelling racial slurs at him and threatened to shoot his family when he got back. He also said that during the fight, the victim hit him with a portable speaker in the shoulder, and that’s when he stabbed him.
Hyderkhan has been in Indiana County Jail since his arrest last Friday as he was unable to post $25,000 bail. Today’s hearing is set for 11:00 AM in front of District Judge Anthony Sottile.
