Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was fined $5000 by the league on Sunday for a slash during the team’s 5-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Malkin was assessed a 2:00 minute minor late in the first period for the move against defenseman Logan Stanley. Throughout his 20-year career, Malkin has been fined four separate occasions including Sunday and suspended twice.
The Pens are back in action as they continue their Canadian road trip tonight with a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Pens are in a tie for first in the Metro with the New Jersey Devils with 18 points. The Devils have one more win over the Pens in the standings. Meanwhile the Maple Leafs, despite coming off a win against the Flyers Saturday night, are next to last in the Atlantic division.
