The Penguins will not have to worry about Alex Ovechkin scoring his 900th goal of his career when they play the Capitals at PPG Paints Arena. Ovie got that goal last night against St. Louis. What the Pens will be concerned about is their injury situation, after they revealed yesterday that goaltender Tristan Jarry will miss at least three weeks with an undisclosed lower body injury.
Budding star Sergei Murashov was recalled from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to take Jarry’s spot. He was just named American Hockey League Goalie of the Month on Tuesday.
Jarry was placed on injured reserve along with forwards Noel Acciari and Justin Brazeau, with Acciari expected to miss at least three weeks and Brazeau four. Forward Danton Heinen and defenseman Ryan Graves were recalled from Wilkes.
At practice yesterday, coach Dan Muse elevated rookie Ben Kindel to the top line to skate with Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust.
Crosby says, injuries or not, the Penguins will need to be on top of their game against the Caps.
Crosby says communication will be the key to working with the 18-year-old Kindel on the top line and the power play.
Kindel says he will continue to focus on playing fundamental hockey.
Kindel remembers watching Crosby and Ovechkin’s rivalry when he was a kid.
